Man, oh man, has Assassin's Creed come full circle or what? I remember back in 2007 when Altair first donned that white hood, and it made perfect sense—assassins in the Crusades. But then we got Vikings in Valhalla, and I was like, "Really?" Fast forward to 2025's Assassin's Creed Shadows, and finally, the lore clicks again. Ninjas were basically the shogunate's assassins, and Naoe? She's the real deal. I've been maining her for weeks now, and let me tell you, her Assassin skill tree is an absolute game-changer. With six skill trees to choose from, the Assassin path is where stealth players like me thrive. So, let's dive into the shadows and break down the key abilities you need to master.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, here's a quick cheat sheet of the skills I'll be covering. Trust me, you'll want to bookmark this.
| Skill | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Improved Sense | Passive | Extends enemy highlight duration after Eagle Vision |
| Shoji Door Assassination | Active | Kill enemies through paper doors |
| Double Assassinate | Active | Kill two enemies at once with tanto and hidden blade |
| Vigor 1 | Passive | +1 Adrenaline reserve |
| Nightcrawler | Passive | Boosts night-based damage |
| Executioner | Passive | Easier armor breaks and critical hits on exhausted enemies |
Now, let's get into the meat and potatoes.
Improved Sense: Eagle Vision on Steroids
One of the most iconic mechanics in the series is Eagle Vision. Naoe has it, and Yasuke lacks the skill—though he can still tag enemies, so he's not completely left out. Eagle Vision comes unlocked when you finally start controlling Naoe, and there's one upgrade for it in the Assassin skill tree called Improved Sense. This bad boy extends how long enemies will appear either yellow or red once they exit Eagle Vision. No matter what, I always tag enemies after spotting them with Eagle Vision. It's most useful during castle raids in Assassin's Creed Shadows because you can see through walls. Even as a trained ninja, Naoe needs every advantage she can get. And let me tell you, this skill has saved my bacon more times than I can count.

Shoji Door Assassination: Paper Thin, Deadly Sharp
Players are rarely going to find classic Western-style doors in this game. Instead, most buildings are either barred with heavy planks or have paper doors. It can be satisfying to cut through paper doors in a ninja or samurai game to give players a small sense of destructibility. But players who wish to remain more stealthy can get the Shoji Door Assassination skill. This allows you to kill enemies through paper doors, which is even more satisfying than destroying them. It's easier to see enemies through these classic Japanese doors with Eagle Vision or with the aid of candlelight in darker settings. I've lost count of how many times I've been crouched behind a flimsy door, seen a guard's silhouette, and just ended him without a sound. Chef's kiss.

Double Assassinate: Two for One Special
Double Assassinate has to be one of the most useful skills in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Whether you sneak up behind enemies or attack them from above, you can use a tanto and your hidden blade to kill two enemies at once. This skill is directly above Shoji Door Assassination, which is odd considering it's very hard to pull off a double kill through paper doors. If you manage to pull off one of those, you'll become a legendary ninja. Regardless, you need to boost your Knowledge Points as fast as possible to get to tier level two to get Double Assassinate. This can be done via visiting shrines or practicing Kuji-kiri. It should be noted that there are six Knowledge tiers for every skill tree in the game. So get grinding, because this skill is a total game-changer.

Vigor 1: More Adrenaline, More Action
The previous two skills were active abilities, and Vigor 1 is a passive ability. However, it can aid active skills for different skill trees like Katana. Active skills can be assigned to the face buttons, so on an Xbox Series X controller, it would be X, Y, A, and B. Like most skills in RPGs, using one will require a cooldown period, but it also requires Adrenaline—those diamond-like icons situated by Naoe's health bar. The more you attack, the more these Adrenaline diamonds will recover. Vigor 1 will boost Naoe's Adrenaline reserves by one, and every tier after that will do the same. Trust me, in the heat of battle, having that extra diamond can mean the difference between life and death.

Nightcrawler: The Night is Dark and Full of Terrors
Nightcrawler is a passive ability that will aid players under the veil of night. When storming a castle or some other big compound, it's recommended to go at night with Naoe in Assassin's Creed Shadows. It doesn't really matter with Yasuke as he can destroy anything and anyone without much resistance. Nightcrawler will boost night-based damage, which applies to head-on attacks or assassination attempts against larger enemies. The attack boost isn't much, but players can stack the effectiveness with other skills. The Katana skill tree, for example, will boost melee damage for all three weapons. So, stacked with Nightcrawler, weapons can potentially be deadliest at night. As a self-proclaimed night owl, this skill is my jam. I love nothing more than picking off guards in the moonlight.

Executioner: Break 'Em Down
Executioner isn't as cool as it sounds because Naoe isn't going to produce a giant axe like U.K.-based executioners. It is still useful in this game though. When players break through armor or parry an attack in Assassin's Creed Shadows, enemies have the chance to be exhausted for a few seconds. They will be highlighted with a yellow hue, cluing players in that they are now vulnerable and will hence receive more damage. With Executioner, players can more easily break through armor and deal critical blows while enemies are off balance. To bring up the Katana skill tree again, Guard Breaker is an active skill that is almost guaranteed to smash through armor. Players can pair this with Executioner and create a more effective ninja. I've been running this combo, and let me tell you, I feel like a one-woman army.

Final Thoughts: Sharpen Your Blade
So there you have it—my go-to skills from Naoe's Assassin tree. Of course, there are plenty more abilities to unlock, and your playstyle might differ from mine. But if you're looking to be a stealthy shadow warrior, these are the cream of the crop. Remember, Knowledge Points are key, so visit those shrines and practice your Kuji-kiri. And don't forget to experiment with other skill trees to complement your build. The beauty of Assassin's Creed Shadows is that you can tailor Naoe to fit your preferred approach. Whether you're a night owl, a door-cutting phantom, or a double-assassinating legend, the shadows are yours to command. Now go out there and make Altair proud. 🥷
