Hey, fellow wanderer. If there is one thing Ubisoft still does brilliantly in 2026, it is building dense worlds that beg you to climb every roof and peek behind every shrine. Assassin's Creed Shadows is a perfect example. I have spent dozens of hours in its version of feudal Japan, and I keep getting distracted by temples, shrines, Yokai investigations, and unique enemies. One activity that quietly eats my time is exploring temples and shrines. Japan in the 1500s was a country of tradition and religion, and the game captures that with iconic Kansai region structures. So let me walk you through one of my favorites: Tenryuji Temple. If you are hunting Lost Pages, this guide will save you a lot of rooftop guessing.

Why Temples and Shrines Matter
At every temple or shrine, you are usually looking for one of two things: Lost Pages to collect or shrines to pray at. Do either, and you get a nice chunk of EXP plus a Knowledge Point. Those Knowledge Points are precious because they help upgrade Naoe and Yasuke. Some collectibles are hidden so well that I have circled a building three times before spotting them. Tenryuji is not the worst offender, but it has a few sneaky placements.
Tenryuji Temple Location
Tenryuji Temple sits in the Yamashiro region of Japan, west of Kyoto. It is a hostile area, so you cannot just stroll in like a tourist. You either need to proceed with caution or clear out everyone who approaches. I usually stay on the rooftops. It is safer, faster, and most of the Lost Pages are up there anyway. The temple has a main building near a small pond in the back, plus a large tower that you will need to climb. The layout is beautiful, but it is also designed to make you work for your rewards.
Lost Page #1: Rooftop Near the Main Building
For the first Lost Page, head toward the main building of Tenryuji Temple, the one closest to the small pond in the back. Stay on the rooftops. From the main building, use your grappling hook to jump across a small tree branch. The Lost Page is sitting on a couple of planks of wood on the roof. I missed it the first time because I was looking at the ground. Do not make my mistake. Grab it, then look north for the next step.
Lost Page #2: The Large Tower
From Lost Page #1, look north. Jump across to the next building, then turn your eyes to the large tower. You will need to swing across and climb up. The second Lost Page is at the front, under the wooden contraption on the ledge that looks into the building. This spot is on the west part of the tower. It is a bit of a puzzle if you approach from the wrong angle. I found it easiest to climb from the west side and then shimmy around. Once you have it, you can drop down or grapple away.
Lost Page #3: The Pond Rock
The final Lost Page is a little easier to get, but it puts you in more danger because it is the only one on ground level. Head all the way west to the pond and look at the rock in the middle of the water. The Lost Page is lying on that rock. Be cautious of the patrols around the south wall. The hostiles in the north should not look in your direction, but that can change if you make noise or get spotted. I like to wait for a patrol to pass, then sprint to the rock, grab the page, and immediately climb back to safety.
Rewards and Final Tips
Once you collect all three Lost Pages at Tenryuji Temple, you will earn:
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| EXP | 500 |
| Knowledge Point | 1 |
That Knowledge Point is the real prize. In 2026, with all the post-launch content and updates, every upgrade still matters. If you are trying to build Naoe as a stealthy assassin or Yasuke as a frontline warrior, these temple collectibles add up fast.
Here are a few tips I wish I had known earlier:
-
🏯 Stay on rooftops whenever possible. Tenryuji is hostile, and the ground is crowded.
-
🧗 Use the grappling hook liberally. It is not just for traversal; it is your escape route.
-
👀 Mark patrols before dropping down. The south wall is the riskiest part.
-
🗺️ Do temples and shrines in batches. The EXP and Knowledge Points stack quickly.
-
⚔️ If you prefer chaos, clear the area first. It is slower but safer for ground-level pages.
I know some players rush through Assassin's Creed Shadows and only chase main story missions. But for me, the temples and shrines are where the world feels most alive. Tenryuji Temple is a small piece of that larger puzzle, yet it captures what Ubisoft does well: dense environments, meaningful exploration, and rewards that actually help your characters grow. So grab your grappling hook, keep an eye on those rooftops, and enjoy the climb. Happy hunting.
